Introduction
FastServe had set up two online marketing and distribution internet sites to increase their exposure in the sports apparel business. In doing so, it was necessary for the company to shift 10% of the 350 person workforce to manage the development and over see daily operations. Soon after the web sites were up and running it became clear that this online service was not as successful as they had hoped. Downloading of their 3D visual software program was cumbersome to the home shopper and the purchase transactions were at such low levels that it caused company concern over the continued effort to support the sites. Eventually, it became obvious that the online distribution was not working for FastServe and they made the decision to move out of the online distribution arena. Most of the employees who had shifted to the online distribution department will be absorbed back into other areas of the company however; the COO has defined five employees who should be considered for dismissal. Of these five candidates three must be dismissed from company responsibilities and the remaining two will be given new responsibilities in other areas of the organization. In the following document the five candidates for dismissal will be analyzed. Their skill set will be assessed, extenuating regulatory circumstances that present the potential for legal litigation will be evaluated and the possibilities for the employee to contribute to the future direction of the company will be appraised. Taking these three things into consideration will help determine which employees are to be terminated.
