Salt Lake City Olympic Scandal

With Lobbying it is merely trying to convince a government official in hopes to get an agreement.  Bribery is  when compensation is offered for a special litigation.  Lobbying itself is legal, however when the fine line is crossed over into Bribery it is illegal and is considered a felony.  With the Mayor offering contracts for city work in exchange for convention business, this could very well be considered bribery.  As a government official it would not be wise to commit a felony.  It will hurt the not only the Mayor’s image, but the town’s image as well since the Mayor is representing the area.

What would make the general public think these things?  First, lets talk about businesses.  For example, two businesses are competing for a deal with another company.  One business is a smaller local business, and the other is a corporation.  The corporation offers free vacations to the top executives and their families for the business if they choose them.  On the other hand, the smaller local business can not afford to offer such a bribe and instead plays by the law and offers a bid at a lower cost for the business.  What would you do in this situation.  Would you take a personal bribe and be selfish?  Would you take into consideration that the local business can perform a service for a lesser cost which will benefit the company?

Another obvious reason would be that it is illegal.  The general public I feel is likely to follow laws.  Since those who break the law are usually frowned upon.  I also believe that jealousy also is a trigger with the general public.  I think that the general public feels that those with large amounts of money could be considered above the law b ...
