Running Head: LEADERSHIP MODEL  WESTERN GOVERNORS UNIVERSITY  SALT LAKE CITY, UT.  SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP MODEL  A Paper Prepared for EDUC  In Partial Fulfillment of  The Requirements for the Degree  Master of Business Administration  Salvador Velasco  March 2009  Situational Leadership Model  A brief definition will help to align the four leadership styles with the four follower readiness levels. For example, leadership styles are characterized into four behavior types S1 to S4:               Follower readiness governs the directive and supportive behavior of the leader. Readiness is the ability and willingness of a follower to direct their behavior in relation to a specific task to be accomplished. Follower readiness levels can be characterized into four behavior types R1 to R4:    R1: Low Ability and Unwilling Followers requiring S1 or S2   leader directed behavior. A leader engages in one-way communication   by telling what tasks the follower is to do, as well as when,   where, and how tasks are to be accomplished.       R2: Moderate Ability but Willing Follower requiring S1 or   S2 leader directed behavior.       R3: Moderate Ability but Unwilling Follower requiring S3   or S4 follower directed leader behavior.         The Situational Leadership model provides a framework to help the leader diagnose and implement the most effective leadership style to result in more effective leaders and followers.
