Social Responsibility Between Coca Cola And Clp

We feel that CLP Group was a company that acts in a socially responsible manner.
The sense of social responsibility is firmly embedded in CLP’s corporate culture. The company is constantly aware of their responsibly to carefully manage the impact of their business on the environment, highlighted by numerous initiatives and their support for many environmental campaigns [1].
In the past 10 years, people in Hong Kong have become more and more concerned about environment protection. One of their main concerns would include Air pollution. These years, many environmental associations have conducted a lot of research to analyze Hong Kong’s air pollution problem [2]. On November 16th, 2007, The Standard issued an article with a title ‘CLP “world’s no.3 polluter-”’. It said The Castle Peak power station produced 35.8 million tons of carbon dioxide to generate 28.2 million megawatt hours of energy. However, the CLP disputed the findings and claimed that the plant emitted only a third of the carbon dioxide reported. [3]
Undoubtedly, electricity generation by burning coal will generate different pollutants, namely: carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and also nitrogen-oxide suspending particles [4]. These pollutants can adversely affect the condition of the surrounding air also be extremely hazardous to public’s health.  CLP recognized the citizens’ concern and have since tried to minimize their air pollutant emissions. Their actions are listed below:
1. Operate by a recognized world class standard, or the standards established by the Hong Kong /Guangdong governments on emissions of air pollutants, even if it is not a requirement to do so.
2. Use continuous emissions monitors (CEMs) at significant sources, e.g. large and medium plants.
