To address this critical business challenge, TCS recommended a solution comprising the usage of a centralized product / rules catalog that will be used by business users to configure new products / services. This in turn would be used by various OSS/BSS systems to fulfill end-2-end business functions.

The following factors were evaluated before arriving at a solution:

• Product vs. Custom solution: Custom solution was selected as there were no COTS product available that could address this challenge
• SOA vs. direct interface: Currently the solution includes a combination of services and direct interface to the application where the COTS products did not expose complex configuration as services.

The solution is based on the following key principles

• Standards: The usage of a centralized product/services catalog as prescribed by the Tele Management Forum’s Telecom Application Map (TAM) definition.
• Services Based: The solution promotes the use of services and event driven data transfer mechanism between systems. The OSS/BSS systems will interface using services where permitted by the COTS products
• Externalization of Rules: Rules externalization professed by Next Generation OSS Framework (NGOSS) provides agility for the architecture

After a detailed assessment, this solution was implemented using a bespoke solution and a direct interface to the COTS products. An environment presented to the business user to configure products and price plan for the launch. The system will automatically update the Point of Sales, CRM, Provisioning and billing application automatically. The high level architecture diagram is shown below:
