Introduction
Total Quality Management was a means to an end for companies in dire need of improvement. Most companies establish their own definition of what Total Quality Management means to their organization. Quality should be considered a top priority. Within this paper, I will discuss the definition of Total Quality Management, the impact of globalization on quality, and how Total Quality Management effects my organization.
Total Quality Management
Quality improvement should be a major focus in any organization. This paper has been written with the intention of showing the assessment required for the creation process of this focus. Any product, or service, offered to the public should follow the basic requirements to produce quality. Organizations of the past have chosen to take quality granted. They choose to promote quantity instead of quality. Times are changing rapidly. The customer’s expectations are not what they use to be.
With change, comes a new venue that will allow an organization to come together while providing the highest quality any customer could require. Total Quality Management has many different definitions. As stated in text, TQM is a management methodology, a way to run the business, not a fad or some gimmick to spur productivity momentarily or to improve some special factor (Burrill & Ledolter, 1999). Initially, TQM was not accepted here in the United States. The Japanese took the concept and ran with the idea. They called it Total Quality Control instead of TQM.
