Jill has been doing research on whether or not a movie theatre would be a viable business for her and her husband to pursue. The question is has she gathered enough information to prepare an adequate business plan.
The first section of the business plan focuses on background and purpose. I believe that Jill has enough information to talk about the history and the current situation. When addressing the resource-based concept, one must describe the key resources that will contribute to the firm’s success. I think that she will be able to address this concept by talking about the fact that there is no other service such as this in the area and giving a brief overview of the market research showing that, although not everyone participated in the research, there is a desire for this type of service in the community.
In section 2, the business plan must outline the short term and long term objectives of the business. The case doesn’t specify as to whether or not Jill has thought out her long term objectives. She has touched on the short term objective of starting a theatre in the community or surrounding area but there is no mention as to whether or not she is looking at staying small for the short term and expanding in the long term if demand exists for the service. Right now it seems that she is basing most of her short term objective on the growing population stemming from the Hybernia project. It doesn’t look like she has extended her objectives to consider what might happen when the Hybernia project comes to an end.
