Introduction
Geography:
Socialist Republic of Vietnam or Coäng Hoøa Xaû Hoäi Chuû Nghóa Vieät Nam is a country located in Southeast Asia; it is bordered by China in the north, Lao and Cambodia in the west, the South China Sea in the east and the Gulf of Thailand in the south. Vietnam is 1,650 km from north to south with 50 km east to west at its thinnest point. The total area of Vietnam is about 329,560 square km with 4,200 square km of water and 3,444 km of coastline; the country is about 75% of the size of California (World Factbook, Vietnam). Its terrain makes up of mountain and delta in the north, rain forest in the central highland, and delta and estuaries in the south. Vietnam climate is divided into two seasons; the winter is the dry season and the summer is the hot, humid and rainy season. The annual average temperatures range from 22-27 Celsius (TraveltoVietnam). The lowest point is the South China Sea and the highest point is the 3,144 m Fan Si Pan Mountain.
